May Recap
Posted on 06/03/2024

Whew! The end of the school year is a whirlwind of field trips, events, and celebrations! It felt like just yesterday that we were singing, “It’s gonna be May..” Here’s what we spent the month doing at Northlake:

Teacher Appreciation Week

Ms. Lewis, Dr. Mody, and the PTA rolled out the red carpet for the NMS staff during Teacher Appreciation Week! They provided a VIP snack cart, a grilled cheese truck, a popcorn bar and more! The staff felt very appreciated.

Volleyball Champs!

Our Varsity Boys’ Volleyball team took first place overall in the conference. The JV team brought home a second place trophy. Varsity was coached by Mrs. Chester and JV was coached by Mr. Larakers. We are so proud of their hard work!

NJHS Charity Game

The National Junior Honor Society sponsored a charity volleyball game. The boys and girls volleyball teams played one another. All the proceeds benefited 4 Paws 4 U 4 Ever, an animal shelter.

Trout Release

Mrs. Chester took a group of adventurous eighth graders to Kankakee State Park to release trout, identify aquatic species, and clean up the river. They came back muddy and full of funny stories.

Kline Creek Farms

Sixth graders spent a day exploring Kline Creek Farms. They learned about the ways of life back in the 1800s and how the Kline family was able to successfully run their dairy farm.

Main Event

Student Council ended the school year with a team building expedition to Main Event. They accomplished a lot this year and deserved a day of fun.

Retirement Party

We celebrated the retirement of Mrs. Brenner and Ms. Murray. They have both played pivotal roles at Northlake and will leave big shoes to fill on our sixth grade team. We wish them all the health and happiness in their next journey!

Chicago Dogs Game

We had to round it out with a seventh grade field trip, too! This group enjoyed watching the Chicago Dogs play ball one sunny afternoon in May.

Class Night

It is almost time for us to say goodbye to our eighth graders. They took a trip to New York City during Class Night. They came dressed to the nines and enjoyed hanging out with their friends.
